Travel to Koh Rong Island

We left Siem Reap on Saturday morning the 10th of April and went to Phnom Penh where we took a bus to my homeland. Jam and I spent one night there with my family. On Sunday morning, at about 10am, Jam and I went back to Phnom Penh. From there, Jam went to Sihanoukville, while I stayed at a friend's house with Rithy and Soe. We had a lot of fun with friends while in Phnom Penh Rithy and I talked about planning a trip to the Kohrong Island until early in the morning.

Arriving In Sihanouk Ville

On Monday, we woke at 7 AM and went to the bus station. The bus left for Sihanoukville at about 8:30 AM. We arrived in Sihanoukville at about 2:30 PM, met Jam there, and then went to the S’bowmeas Guesthouse.

Sihanouk Ville

Jam, Soe, and Rithy bought many supplies for our trip to the Island the next day. Jam bought a bottle of kerosene, and put in the bag with our food. When morning came, we spent three hours on a boat, and that was my first time to be on the boat a long way on the ocean.Three hours later, we arrived on the island.

Finding A Place

We did not stay at the guest house, but we booked it just in case we did not find a place to put the tent.

Our Home

We found a place for our tent, set it up, and started cooking our first meal at this peaceful place. What is going on? All the food tasted like kerosene. It was too late to find more food, so we ate our noodles that tasted just like kerosene.

A Place

It was fun for our first time, no mater what happened. We thought that if we came here, and were not happy, then why spent so much money just to be here? So it is better we enjoy ourselves and make jokes to each other about the food. That night, we all laid down on the beach for about 30 minutes, while I played in the waves and caught a small fish. On the first night, I was very scared.

The next day, the sun was shining brightly, the water was very clean, and the beach was so amazing. I really enjoyed myself very much.

The Sea

It was so peaceful. I spent from the morning and part of the afternoon in the water and then found I was sunburned. I realized that I was starting to be very hungry, but unfortunately, we did not have any good food to eat.

Suffering Time

Rithy and Jam went away, and I did not know where they were. Soe and I was waiting for them for a couple hours, and then Soe said, 'I am going to die, and keep me under the sand now, I really hungry.' Rithy came and brought fry chicken with ginger and rice. We really enjoyed it very much. It was amazing food, the best ever in the world.

Group

Soe said to Rithy, "Where were you? I am going to die, because no food". Rithy said, "I am going to die, because of carrying this food, and all the sand flies chased me behind" All we had for dinner were noodles. When the next day came, we had lunch with a local family who made very good food for us.After lunch, we moved our tent to another place.

Making friends

Soon we met another family who were Cambodian Chinese. Their children could speak Chinese very well. They spoke in Chinese with Soe, who could also speak Chinese. We became good friends quickly, and had lunch together. We talked with them for a very long time, After that, we went to visit a school and talk with the village chief.

Leaving

The next day, on April 18th, we left the island in the morning on a three and one half hour boat ride. At about noon, we arrived Sihanoukville.We ate lunch and bought a bus ticket for Phnom Penh, but Rithy bought tickets with the wrong bus company. He wanted to buy tickets with Kampuchea Angkor bus company, but instead bought tickets with GST, which he does not like. Anyway, we took the GST bus back to Phnom Penh and arrived at about 6:30 in the evening. We spent some time with more friends, but I was so tired I went to bed.

Getting Back

The next day, I took a bus from Phnom Penh back to Siem Reap, and it took 8 hours. because the traffic was very bad. It took 2 hours just to cross the Japanese bridge on the way out of Phnom Penh. I arrived Siem Reap about 8:30 PM on the 19th of April. While at the beach, I was bitten up by sand flies, and now I can say I really hate sand flies. Now all over my body is very itchy from the sand fly bites.
