Writer Workshop

Senate's Library

The Writer's workshop workshop was held in July 2009 at the Senate's library in Phnom Penh. The workshop was the idea of an NGO working in Cambodia called "Room to Read". Activities were designed to improve the skills of the early reader, and to make more books for early readers. I decided to attend in this workshop because I enjoy writing, and thought it would be a good chance for me to improve my skills. I was very happy to have a chance to meet many famous writers from Cambodia who had so much experience.

Dungkoa Primary School

The people who were there came from all the difference provinces throughout Cambodia. "Room to Read" also invited a resource person to give lessons on how to write a good book. We learned how to write both nonfiction and fiction stories. In one activity, we all went to a nearby primary school. We wanted to have the students there read our stories and tell us how much they understood. Each writer had submitted four stories. Two of the stories were nonfiction, and the other two were fiction.

Testing student

There was a total of about 80 stories submitted, and Room to Read had to choose the best stories for this year. The stories would be printed and given to early readers for them to enjoy. I was very happy to have three of my stories selected to be published.

Writers

I was happy to attend this workshop because writing is one of my favorite activities. My writing of nonfiction and fiction for early readers has improved. I practiced many difference exercises, and worked as a group with many other writers.
